Although gray has usurped black as the hue due jour, I still love the colour (as I tend to shy away from IT colours) quite a bit! This baseball jacket in heather gray (gray, confettied with specks of white <3)>

I was never quite into MMM, but then his Homme collection has converted me! With every piece boasting his precise tailoring, the separates come together to present his biker-grunge aesthetic, which is really appealing, esp when fitted on a model, of course! Haha.

Richard Chai Homme S/S 2009

I daresay Chai was never on my radar before, but I guess now he is! I like the 80's references in this collection, what with the powder blue suit, combed back coiffs and classic plaid. Am totally digging the powder blue suit, esp if it can be unzipped>cropped!

Veronique Branquinho Homme S/S 2009

The male Henleys, cardigans and tanks here encapsulates an organic kind of French chic-ness. While my colour palette tends to contain B& W only these days, I'm contemplating adding red to the whole mixture, seeing how lively the colour is! And the pants in the first picture, looks like it'd be amazing for lazy days, when paired with a tank and cardigan. Think its DIY-able ... to my dad's closet it is!

Just when I was grousing earlier about how bland my b&w outfits for summer is, Helmut Lang reassures me that its not. In fact, some of the classic white tank-black mini outfits seen in his Resort collection is similar, if not exactly the same to the ones I don almost every other day!

Unlike Calvin Klein who churns out dull and unflattering pieces, Lang's minimalisitic aesthestic is really clean and appealing. Bonus, is that every item in this collection is easily translatable for any day of the year!

Missoni Resort 2008

Thank you, Angela, for not overdoing the whole knit thing you have done, reinterpreted, reinvented and redone till grandmoms are sick of it. Because this little knit toga is actually kind of cute, and really a pretty little outfit for spring/summer! Of course, a huge floppy beach hat would totally complete the look... just saying.

This colourblock thing everyone's been doing for their Resort lines... I'm giving you mad props for pulling it off better than the rest! While I'm not too crazy about the colours you've going on there, I really like the striking contrast of the hues you've chosen, and how that horizontal sash seems to pull the whole look together. Was not trying to pull a pun there... but haha sometimes I crack myself up when I'm freezing and bored in the office. Zzz..

Florals are huge this year, and hence because of the sublimal sartorial influence, I like this piece. Mainly cause its not crazy pajama-print-florals all the girls are wearing on the streets, and neither is it ugly brush strokes masquerading as flowers, but almost, like a painting of the gardens of Narnia.

Nicely done here this season, Missoni, unlike a certain Mr Wang, who seems to have been replaced by a ghost This Fashion designer for this Resort season. Tut tut, really!

In all truth, I'm a tad disapppointed actually; none of the designers have picked up on honest-to-goodness resort-chic. Gonna pull it off all on my own this season then, of course with the help of the mother's plastic. Hehe.

And surely, no outfit is complete without a sac to tote your essentials around, no?

Sweet, sweet fringe from Gojane. I've kind of pigeonholed my overall aesthestic and think I'm kind of rockandroll-hippie. Kind of.

Not as awesome as the one above, but still lovely in its own pseudo-hippie right. From Forever21. Sigh.. Have been waiting for sprees from these two sites for the longest time ever!

This one I'll die to get my hands on cause it is the perfect summer sac!! Total steal at 1,230US$ from Givenchy!! Just that at this moment it means that I've got to go steal from a bank or something. Gonna wait it out and see how this obsession with it goes!

After half a year of erratic deliberation, I've finally ordered them- the American Apparel Shiny High-waist leggings in Lame Matte Black! I know, I know; I swore that I'd never don leggings cause they are not pants!

But see, these are shiny! And High-waisted! And they look like leather! How often is it you get to look like Catwoman on a normal day!

Haha I seriously cant wait to get my hands on them come AW2008 Sem 1, aka Autome/Hiver 2008. If they are as awesome as I imagine them to be then perhaps Black Eel you can be mine too... Stay tuned.

While I think my style would be prep-meets-eclectic-weirdo, somehow, Alexander Wang's grunge aethestics has gotten to me.
His Spring and Fall '08 collections keep flashing in my mind as I get dressed in the mornings. Which led to me sneaking onto his website (in school!) and being enraptured by the visuals.

He has really captured the essence (oh dear, I'm beginning to pick up such nuaces from my British lecturer) of a M.O.D, a Model Off Duty, in his words, who is inherently cool, stylish and chic. Which gives me the pretext of having not combed my hair for the past year and leaving it in a tumble of stylish(I hope!) mess, just like an Alexander Wang girl.

My favorites this season, Coco and Freja get into the playful spirit of the song and are really cute together!

Freja 101, with interesting interview bits of Freja. Her voice totally surprised me; I was expecting a rather gentle and more girly voice, but instead its sort of bass and almost as if she talks with her tongue as close to the roof of her mouth. This lovely video also fails to mention that she bats for the other team, which totally oddly psyches me up!

There is Anna Wintour with her structured fashion rules, Carine Roitfield with her french sophistication, and there is Taylor Tomasi. While she's not exactly in the ranks of the above mentioned, she is definitely one fashion juggernaut.

Blessed with gorgeous auburn locks and a milky complexion, the Teen Vogue Senior accessories director uses it well to her advantage, donning monochromatic outfits to accentuate her lovely tresses.

Doesn't help that she happens to favour her black MiuMiu bag, which so happens to be my Achille's heel.

It really says something that she is even giving me hair ideas when I usually dread doing anything to my hair, no?

I never thought what I learnt in my elective would come in handy, but...

This is abstract expressionism.

Correction: this is abstract expressionism done splendidly.

Not only is it not baffling (like many abstract expressionism pieces), it is also extremely wearable, even for spring.

"Like a landscape speeding past when you're on a train" was what inspired the colour palette of acid yellow, orange and purple, and it takes one creative mind, Erdem's to be specific, to translate the scene of nature into a piece of art.

"From the beginning, I decided to just go all the way with what I love." It seems like others are just starting to love what he does. That's the best, really, to make a mark with what you love. And Erdem has done it.

"Jersey girl" Doo.ri was one designer I never bothered to follow, what with her signature redraping of jersery dresses and outfits.

Two things that would never have caught my attention: Fluidity and pink.

But I think Miss Bosworth here in Feb 2008's Vogue might have just made me take a double look and start marveling at the structured fluidity of the entire outfit in the spread.
I might just change my mind about the design concept of fluidity... but definitely not pink.

I haven't said this about any collection before, but I do believe that Alexander Wang's Fall collection is one in which I can imagine myself wearing every single piece!

With a dark edge to his pieces, I like how Wang collocated a slouchy masculine silhouette with a sensual femininity. It's all about simple classic pieces in a sleek ensemble, and the "I hate my life" glower; all that I love and can do!

I don't care how pretty Fall 2008 is going to be, seeing the direction the other NY designers are taking, but I'm going WASP grunge!

After spending my whole Sunday with two guys on a mission to get CNY shoes, I now realise the importance of a good/presentable pair of shoes for guys, seeing that they have almost no clothes and accessories to play mix and match with. Snicker.

This ad really caught my eye! The knitted bags of various eye-catching colours and the gleaming gold chains for handles has really had me lusting for them! I can just imagine all the different outfits I can wear with those adorably timeless bags. Totally granny-chic, I'd say. Think I'll make a weekend trip to Taka and check if they're worth the US$69 that they are!

I've always been a sporadic admirer of Victoria Beckham's chic emsembles. She knows what suits her, and she works it. Typically, Football's first lady dresses in black, black, black; all the more to accentuate that amazing figure. Here's one outfit of hers which I think is a clever take on the menswear-inclined trend, infusing it with a slight oriental feel with a gorgeous leather ebi (spelling?) belt. Oh, never mind her fake tan; she's this close to being perfect!

And needless to say, the Pob (the Posh bob, as they say) revolutionized the hair of the rag trade. Instead of voluminous big curls a la the Victoria Secrets, every hair dresser who knew their worth traded in their layering shears for the other, because every one of their customers were requesting this very chi-chi VB bob, even heartland aunties, I hear!

Then Posh shook things up by going even shorter, and blonder (like in the picture below).

Smart move, I'd say, all the better to show off those cheekbones of hers!

But when I heard that Marc Jacobs was going to feature her in his Spring '08 ads... I thought, what a disparate pairing. Marcj with his playful deconstructed looks and Victoria Beckham with her chic style? Goodness gracious.

So lo and behold.

Ehh..this ad campaign did nothing for me, to say the least. But pfft to me, who am I to judge?Fashion followers were clearly divided into two camps. On one hand, many mocked Posh for stupidly being portrayed as a product, or a a blind follower of fashion, while the others saw the satire that came through- that Posh knew that she was a hot commodity and she played that up. And perhaps that was what MJ and VB had in common: a sense of humour.

Anyways, like I said, I was clearly unmoved. Now, to make things clear, I thought that David was never one to feel faint about. But when I saw Beckham dressed in the MJ VB tee, I started gushing, which Charlotte can attest to. How cute is that huh!!

Seriously, that is one amazingly adorable husband right there! Swoon...!

War torn by Lanvin

While I've always merely glanced through Lanvin's collection, this recently revealed pre-fall collection has got me intrigued! With the majority of the outfits being vaguely reminiscent of those in the 1930s to 50s, the silhouette of the dresses really serves to complement the female physique with a casual air of elegance and sophistication.

This dress with its exquisite beading and delicate tailoring of gauze seems to be a direct homage to Jeanne Lanvin, who was known for her way with embroidery and beading. Lanvin, a silent and reserved lady who always donned her trademark outfit of a black suit with minimal white details, seems to have been the inspiration for the muted color palette of the clothes too. The intensely attractive somber hues of grey, navy and teal also reflect the fashion color scheme circa post-ww1 and pre-ww2.

The gloves are gorgeous; it is one accessory I've always reallyy wanted to try, but never had the guts to. According to "A history of fashion" by Garland, evening gowns were accompanied by elbow length gloves, and day costumes were worn with short or opera-length gloves of fabric or leather. Either way, elbow length or not, I'll be on a lookout for them from now on!

I also read in everyone's favourite Wiki, that during the WW2, women were encouraged to wear simple suits with trousers, rather than skirts, for convenience and also due to the textile rationing. Popular female magazines even advised women on how to remake men's suits into smart outfits, since the men were in uniform and the cloth would otherwise sit unused. Imagine that!

And then we have the classic Grecian influence in these dresses, once again a signature of Lanvin. Gorgeous, really. Like the above dresses, the dusky colours allowed the textures and the fine detailling of the outfits to stand out brillantly.

Alber Elbaz, the current designer of the Lanvin house has definitely managed to capture the spirit of Lanvin in this collection. Mr Elbaz, you've got me hooked now. Guess I'll be waiting anxiously for your Lanvin collections to unveil in time to come!

Dressing like the other Olsen

Despite the typically drab Sunday plans of dinner, dress hunting for my sister and grocery shopping, I decided that not even the most boring of nights can make my outfits dull!
So after recently catching the promotional video by The Row, the high fashion line by the Marykate and Ashley Olsen, I was inspired, again to dress like Ashley, after watching the video for the thousandth time!
Pity Mk's gone down the sad trippy John Lennon road and starting to dress in mousy plaids and round tinted glasses along with her wavy tresses.

It's the time of the year again, where every kid goes wild trying to do as much damage to their parents' plastic while they can! So I've compiled a few outfits here, jsut in case you poor souls out there are so disillusioned with the style scene here in Singapore.

The basics jazz!
Pair a plain tee and skinnies with dazzling costume jewelry, and it makes the whole outfit not so plain afterall! Quite glamorous really, with the red bangle adding a hint of appropriately festive colour!

The boho Pocahontas!
I quite like the loosefitting jersey slip of a dress here which is beautifully enhanced with the simple sandals and purse to make one seem like an urban Pocahontas caught in the Oriental season! The Alexander Mcqueen triple buckle belt, gold chain belt and Miumiu wristlet adds a dash of gold to the entire outfit, which could possibly please your grandparents into giving you a bigger red packet!

The Oriental OC girl
A classic pair of loafers and scarf will never fail to inject a bit of 60s into any outfit! Together with this pretty frock which is extremely forgiving to the festive binging, the delicate and exquisite bangles add the festive color of gold, while the bag neutralises the gaudy colour vibes!

The CNY socialite
Wear this beautifully constructed Roland Mouret dress in crimson, and heap on the accessories without apologies, a la the amazing Mk Olsen! Seriously, this dress is definitely meant to impress, especially if you're going to visit your big boss!

The ABC
Ahh... I can just imagine myself in this outfit, sauntering down the streets of New York, weaving in and out of the human traffic in this chic oufit just visit my grandaunt's cousin's niece's daughter (haha!). The sharp red jacket that pops, the pretty muted colours of the scarf, and the piece de la resistance, a cream Miumiu purse! This outfit is by far, my favourite, and as far as out of reach as it can get.

Sigh.. swoon.

The box shoulders

When I saw Anne Valerie Hash's haute couture debut, I was like, meh. Compare it to the runway showstopping pieces of the other haute couture lines along the likes of Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dior, just to name a few, and it doesn't excite you in any way. In fact, its quite a downer, seeing how ready-to-wear it is.

But upon second or even a third look, the pieces look amazingly wearable, with its precise constructed gemetric cuts and details that have been tailored carefully to enhance the female physique. Quite a mean feat to do that with delicate fabrics, like that of the debut collection of the up and coming Hash. Perhaps that was what the designer was going for: haute couture pieces that you don't have to wait for special occasions to don it! I like this one in particular, with its unusually sculpted neckpiece and peekaboo quality!

So while I first scoffed at how drab and unwearable the collection is, especially with the box shoulders(in the pictures below) bringing back painful memories of my mum in her huge shoulder-padded suit, I now have to take back my words.

Because when I rumaged through my Bangkok buys, I pull out this top and was struck by the translation of the box shoulders into the high street! Quite wearable really, the (watered down) box shoulder is!

(Don't mind the mess of clothes in my closet at the corner!)

The funny thing is... I bought the top from Bangkok in December last year, while the couture collection was revealed only last week. Ah, the Thais and their uncanny knack for predicting trends...

Today I had kickboxing after lessons, so this dress was of course the most sensible thing to wear! Sigh, how I miss the days where Mk would just toss a oversized top/dress over her head and went out in thongs, and not the dreaded leggings. This is, a homage to Mk 2006, a chic look on a tight budget!

The star of the circus

What's the naughtiest thing you've done? I dont quite recall, but perhaps mine would be dousing my sister's toothbrush with shampoo when we had our bathroom wars. What a stick in the mud eh. But this ad, this Mert and Marcus ad makes one feel like we're sneaking backstage and watching in fascinated rapture as the star of the act practises her sultry poses while preening before the mirror.

Quite so very naughty really, especially when Miss Durst here, decked in her lolita-esque dresses catches you peering and then turns to zero in on you with her come hither gaze. My eyes can't help but keep getting fixated on Kirsten's crimson bow and lips, and her exquisite outfits. I've taken a particular liking to the cheerleader out with its strong navy and red stripes.

While I'm a fan of Lindsay's ads, I have to say, Kirsten Durst has definitely upped the stakes here. Don't mind me really, but I think I will now go scramble about to find a red replacement for my blue bow!

I absolutely love this shoot. The vividness of the clothes, the sharpness of the pictures totally accentuate every single detail in the background. See how the slightly smoky azure blue of the sky juxtapositions the vibrant colours of the dresses? The way the set was arranged is breathtaking too; every picture shows how the very loud colours clashed to create a eyecatching piece, yet they dont make one's eyes sore.
Juxtapositions, juxatapositions, juxatapositions. The dirty, broken pieces of trash and the electrifying clean colours of the pieces. The hazy hapharzrd background and the sharpness of Stam in her loose, yet somewhat structured clothes. The cheap and deserted rubbish and the dedacance and luxurious outfits.
